Moving beyond accommodation, Airbnb has recently launched Trips, a people-powered platform designed to make travel easier by bringing together hotels, activities and people in one place. The three key areas under Trips are Experiences, Places and Homes, with Flights and Services to be added in the future. This new initiative will be about immersive travelling, with Trips aiming to move travellers closer to local communities wherever they go. Experiences currently lists activities in 12 cities worldwide, including Los Angeles, London, Paris, Cape Town, Tokyo and Seoul. These activities are designed and led by local experts, from single day activities like a Samurai Swordplay workshop in Tokyo to a multi-day classic car drive in Malibu. Under Places, Airbnb connects with cultural experts and neighbourhood insiders to recommend hidden gems in their cities, apart from audio walking tours and meet-ups that help connect Airbnb travellers to engage socially in any city. Trip Itinerary, another new feature, brings together everything a traveller needs to know into one simple timeline, with the ability to easily book and add experiences or things to do.The travel giant has also hiked its safety measures by introducing a new identity authentication process that will require hosts and guests to validate their identity with proper government-issued identity documents.
