Goa’s famous Mandovi River is called the Mhadei upstream, and the pristine valley of this river system is the site for some exciting white water rafting this monsoon. You will be rafting through the dense evergreen forests of the Mhadel Wildlife Sanctuary and the entry-point is the town of Valpoi, about 45km from Panaji. The rafting adventure is being organised by Southern River Adventures (www.goarafting.com) in association with Goa Tourism (www.goa-tourism.com). You will be picked up and dropped off at Valpoi. A 10km stretch of the Mhadei has been earmarked for rafting, and you are guaranteed every safety equipment as well as the services of professional river guides on every raft. During the run, you will cross a number of Class 2 and Class 3 rapids, with colourful names like Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and Pipeline. The entire package costs Rs1,800 per head and you can book your tickets online. Children under 12 years are not allowed.
